Contoura LASIK

Contoura LASIK is topography-guided LASIK: a detailed map of your cornea is used to plan a laser treatment customised to your eye.

What it is

Contoura LASIK is a form of LASIK guided by corneal topography — a detailed map of the shape of your cornea, the clear front surface of the eye. Instead of being planned only from your glasses power, the laser treatment also uses this map, so that small irregularities in the corneal surface can be addressed. Like standard LASIK, it corrects short-sight and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea under a thin flap.

Who it's for

Adults with stable glasses power who are suitable for LASIK, particularly people with astigmatism or minor irregularities of the cornea. Your doctor will review your topography scan and advise whether Contoura or standard LASIK suits your eyes better.

What to expect

The check-up is the same as for LASIK, with additional detailed mapping of the cornea. On the day, the eye is numbed with drops and the procedure for both eyes usually takes around 15–20 minutes. You go home the same day with someone to accompany you.

Recovery

Recovery is similar to standard LASIK: some watering, grittiness or light sensitivity on the first day, with vision usually clearing within a day or two and settling over the following weeks. Use the prescribed drops, avoid rubbing your eyes, and follow your doctor's advice about swimming, make-up and dusty places.

Frequently asked questions

How is Contoura different from standard LASIK?

Both reshape the cornea with a laser. Contoura plans the treatment using a detailed map of your corneal surface, not only your glasses power.

Is Contoura the right choice for everyone?

Not necessarily. The choice depends on your eye measurements. Your doctor will recommend the option that suits your eyes after the check-up.

Book a consultation. The doctor will examine your eyes and explain whether this treatment is right for you.

LASIK

LASIK uses a laser to reshape the cornea and correct short-sight, long-sight and astigmatism, reducing dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

PRK (Surface Laser)

PRK corrects glasses power by reshaping the cornea's surface with a laser, without making a flap — an option when LASIK is not suitable.

Phakic IOL (Implantable Lens)

A phakic IOL is a thin lens placed inside the eye, in front of your natural lens, to correct high glasses power when laser surgery is not suitable.
