Fellowship in Cornea and Microsurgery

Learning Objectives:

  • The fellowship is meticulously designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders in corneal research and management within a robust academic framework.

  • Participants will acquire proficiency in the application of diagnostic testing and assessment methodologies for the identification of corneal diseases.

  • Fellows will attain competence in a diverse array of therapeutic modalities, encompassing both pharmacological interventions and surgical techniques.

  • Active involvement in research initiatives, scholarly presentations, and manuscript publications is an expected component of the training.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must possess a Postgraduate Degree in Ophthalmology from an accredited institution.

Program Description:

  • The primary objective of this program is to equip ophthalmologists with the diagnostic acumen and management strategies for corneal diseases through comprehensive clinical evaluation and research methodologies.

  • The curriculum encompasses the use of various investigative procedures, medical treatment paradigms, and surgical interventions.

  • The fellowship emphasizes thorough training in anterior segment pathologies, focusing on the diagnosis and medical management of conditions affecting the conjunctiva, cornea/sclera, and anterior ocular segment, with a particular emphasis on corneal transplantation and related surgical procedures.

  • Fellows will engage directly in the medical and surgical management of a wide spectrum of corneal disorders, including but not limited to:

    • Microbial keratitis

    • Peripheral ulcerative keratitis

    • Keratoconus

    • Chemical injuries

    • Ocular surface squamous neoplasia

    • Dry eye syndrome

    • Bullous keratopathy

    • Ocular trauma

    • Pterygium

    • Additionally, training in Phacoemulsification is integrated into the program.

Payment Procedures

The course fee encompasses tuition and instructional materials. International participants may facilitate payment online; account details and payment instructions will be communicated by the course coordinator upon confirmation of admission.

Visa Requirements

A visa is a prerequisite for traveling to India. Given that the purpose of your visit is training, you must secure either a student visa, entry visa, or internship visa, depending on the duration of your training. It is advisable to obtain a visa that covers the entire training period prior to your arrival in India,.

Approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC)

Obtaining a temporary medical license from the NMC is essential for all internationally selected ophthalmologists undergoing surgical training in India. The application process with the NMC is conducted through an online portal, and the institution will manage the approval process following the receipt of necessary information and documents from the participants. Final selection is contingent upon the successful completion of this process.

The FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) registration formalities will be done as per the instructions given on your visa page. If required, documents should be presented to the local police commissioner office in person. Please refer registration guidelines for more details.
